Portland, north of the Blue Mountains, is generally considered the most beautiful of Jamaicas parishes a rain-drenched land of luscious foliage, sparkling rivers and pounding waterfalls. The bus trip out there was a bit brutal (nearly 3 hours from Montego Bay) but it was a nice break to explore beyond the poolside cabana. It faces a natural harbour protected by the Palisadoes, a long sand spit which connects the town of Port Royal and the Norman Manley International Airport to the rest of the island.
